On the day of a shooting, how does it work?

If the sessions takes place in your home (which is a great idea), the first thing I will ask you to do is to show me your home.
I need this time to find the place with the best light and the best background for your shooting. From time to time I ask your kids to show me around, normally they are really proud of showing their space and „the ice is broken“. Well, then we start with the session, just having fun, cuddling around and have a good time. There is no pressure, I will direct you into the light and maybe ask you to look at certain members of your family. Of course, we will do a photo with everyone smiling at my camera but the shooting should be a little documentary of who you are and not a „who has the biggest smile“ kind of contest.
If your session is outdoors, we will do a little walk around the area. Here and there I will ask you to stop to capture special moments and again will direct you into the best light.

What happens if my child doesn't behave very well?

No worries, that happens. Every newborn gets hungry during a session and what are they going to do? They will cry, that is completely normal. Show me a two-year-old who loves to do everything you ask her to do. The normal answer is going to be NO. But that's how it is and it's my job to see the beauty in the chaos. And as a backup, I have a lot of tricks which I can use for toddlers.
Maybe a tip for making the shooting easier with toddlers: Wrap a little present for them (it must be wrapped – otherwise they know whats inside and they stop being curious on it) and tell them after the shooting they will get it. It's so easy, but it works.

Should I prepare something special for a newborn home shooting?

In the best case, we want the newborn calm and sleepy for the shooting. I know at some point every newborn gets hungry and needs a break and no worries: we have enough time for a lot of breaks.
So let's try to keep them awake for a bit before the shooting and then give them a decent meal (ideally in the outfit you want them to wear at the shooting) just before I arrive.

Do you have any advice for a good shooting?

Yes, enjoy it! Don't worry, don't overthink it, don't stay up the night before, and everything will be okay. I promise it's going to be fun.

What should we wear for our shooting?

That really is my most frequently asked question. Overall I have to mention, only if you feel comfortable in your outfit, it is a good outfit. But there are a few things, which I can recommend for choosing an outfit. If you are not sure what to wear, I am happy to help you with this. Just send me pictures of the outfits you have in your mind and I will give you tips.

NO logo, no big prints, no writing
No logos, big prints or sport shirts – anything with writing on it. These things distract the attention away from you and make the photos restless and inconsistent.

Don't wear the same outfits
Everyone wearing the same outfit (blue jeans and white shirt) is a little boring. What works better is choosing a few colors that you all will wear.
For example, you could wear a jeans blouse and a beige skirt, your partner blue pants, your little girl a white dress with blue points and your baby-boy a beige romper.

Not too much patterns
I love patterns, but only if there is at most one person wearing a pattern in the shoot.
Especially for couple shootings: If you wear a long-striped dress, your partner fits the best to you in something neutral.

Don't dress up your newborn
Keep the baby's clothes simple. Most of the time a cute body suite or a sweet romper is the best decision. Dots, stripes, little flowers, or single colored clothes are always the best choices, as they are simple and timeless.

Let's think the outfits to the end
If you wear a summer dress and sandals, it's not going to work if dad wears his business outfit. It also feels weird if you choose very elegant outfits for playing around at the beach.
Think about your surroundings and where the shooting will take place.
If we are doing an outdoor session, there will be a lot of green, so a lot of green in your outfits will not be the best decision. Or e.g. if your living room has lots of blue colors, I would recommend to choose outfits with less blue in it.

Last but not least, don't overthink it. Wear what makes you happy and what feels right to you. And if you are a polka dot family, then feel free to wear dots in every outfit. The photos are yours and if all of you want is to wear dots, it's obviously totally fine for me as well.

How / when / what / why?

I know that there are a lot of questions concerning a wedding reportage. Please write me a short message with the most important facts about your wedding, your date, the location and what kind of marriage ceremony you are planning.
I will respond shortly and will send you a detailed PDF which will answer all your main questions. If you agree to that and we are all on the same page, we will set up a meeting (in person, or over Skype) in which we go over everything for your special day in detail.
